〘Noun〙① A script that developed from the brāhmī style of writing used in ancient India, used to write Sanskrit. The same script was used in Japan. Originally written horizontally from left to right, it became vertically from right to left in Japan. The basic characters are (a), (i), (o) of mata, and (ka ) , (ca), (ta) of taimon .
