Dodo refers to various ways, various academic disciplines and performing arts, and "dodo no mono" refers to experts who are skilled in various ways. Also called "dodo no hai," according to artisan poetry contests, the term is used to include a variety of skilled workers, including casters, blacksmiths, carpenters, doctors, onmyoji (exorcists), shamans, Buddhist chanters, Sarugaku (musicians), gamblers, divers, prostitutes, and puppeteers, as well as merchants, craftsmen, entertainers, religious figures, and gamblers. However, around the time of the Nanboku-cho period, the term came to be used more narrowly to refer to entertainers and sorcerers, excluding craftsmen, and later "do no mono" was sometimes used synonymously with prostitutes. This change in usage is thought to have been due to a social trend that solidified the status of discriminated people, including entertainers and sorcerers. →Class system→Related articleHattori Yukio Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
