Michihiko

Japanese: 道彦 - みちひこ

A haiku poet of the mid-Edo period. A member of the Suzuki or Murakami clan. His given name was Yoshiyuki. He was from Sendai. A doctor and a member of the Shirao school . After his teacher's death, he moved to Edo and became a central figure in the Shirao school. His wife, Ooyo, also enjoyed haiku. He is one of the three great haiku poets of the Kansei period, along with Natsume Shigemi and Inoue Shiro. He edited and wrote works such as "Itsutahonshu," "Tobiganshu," and "Tsurushiba." His main works are contained in "Michihiko Nanabushu." From the 7th year of the Horeki period to the 2nd year of the Bunsei period ( 1757-1819).

江戸中期の俳人。鈴木氏または村上氏。名は由之。仙台の人。医師。白雄(しらお)門。師の没後江戸に出て白雄門の中心となって活躍。妻の応々も俳諧を嗜んだ。夏目成美・井上士朗とともに寛政三大家の一人。編著「蔦本集」「鳶眼集」「鶴芝」など。主要なものは「道彦七部集」に収まる。宝暦七～文政二年（一七五七‐一八一九）
