A local clan in the Middle Ages that had its base in Misumi-go, Naka County, Iwami Province, and exerted its influence in the western Iwami region. According to genealogy and other records, they were a branch of the Iwami Masuda Mikamoto clan, and Masuda Kanetaka's second son Kanenobu was given the position of land steward of Misumi, Kizuka, and Nagayasu, based in Misumi Taka Castle, and founded a clan in 1229 (Kanki 1) that took the name of the Misumi clan. However, it is believed that the establishment of medieval Misumi-go dates back to the late or final Kamakura period, and the establishment of the Misumi clan, which bears the name of the district, also dates to around this time.
