Also known as jute or tunaso. A fiber crop believed to be native to China or India, it is an annual plant of the Tilia family. The stems are red to yellow-green and 1.5 to 3 m tall. The leaves are lanceolate, 10 to 20 cm long, with sawtooth edges. The flowers are yellow with five petals. After flowering, the stems are left whole or the bark is peeled off and soaked in water to extract the fibers. They are used to make bags, low-grade mats, string, etc., but the fibers are weak to water and not durable. Main production areas include India and Bangladesh. → Related topics Hemp | Amazon | Avelvet | Espadrilles | Kenaf | Plant fibre | Fibre crops | Negros River | Mulukhiya Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
