An old town in Mikata District facing Wakasa Bay in the southwest of Fukui Prefecture. Mikata is located along the Tango Highway (National Route 27) and is connected to the Obama Line. Plums are a specialty of the area, and fishing is also thriving. The coastal areas, including the Mikata Five Lakes and the Tsunekami Peninsula, belong to the Wakasa Bay Quasi-National Park.
