Mikata [town] - Mikata
An old town in Mikata District facing Wakasa Bay in the southwest of Fukui Prefecture. Mikata is located along the Tango Highway (National Route 27) and is connected to the Obama Line. Plums are a specialty of the area, and fishing is also thriving. The coastal areas, including the Mikata Five Lakes and the Tsunekami Peninsula, belong to the Wakasa Bay Quasi-National Park. In March 2005, it merged with Kaminaka Town in Onuki District to become a town, Wakasa Town. 96.57 km2 . 9,144 people (2003).

福井県南西部，若狭湾に臨む三方郡の旧町。丹後街道（国道27号線）に沿う三方が中心で，小浜(おばま)線が通じる。ウメの実を特産し，漁業も盛ん。三方五湖や常神(つねかみ)半島を中心とする海岸部は若狭湾国定公園に属する。2005年３月遠敷郡上中町と合併し町制，若狭町となる。96.57km2。9144人（2003）。
