Isaie

Japanese: イザイエ
Isaie
Belgian violinist, composer and conductor. Also known as Ysaÿe. Born in Liège, he studied under Bieniawski at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels and under the great Belgian violinist H. Beautemps (1820-1881) in Paris. He served as a professor at his alma mater and was active as a soloist and conductor in Europe and the United States. His works were dedicated to Franck, Fauré, Chausson and Debussy. He further modernized the performance techniques of his two teachers and had an overwhelming influence on the next generation, while he also left a major mark on the history of violin music with his 1924 composition of six Sonatas for Solo Violin (dedicated to the great performers of his time, such as Szigeti, Thibaud, Enesco and Kreisler). The competition that began under his name was later reopened as the Queen Elisabeth International Music Competition, and is one of the world's most prestigious gateways to success for young violinists (see Music Competitions). → Primrose / Milstein → Related topics Oistrakh | Granados | Stern | Nat | Haskil | Bloch | Pelléas and Mélisande | Menuhin | Rubinstein
