A spider of the family Polytminae (illustration). It builds a dome-shaped dwelling (air chamber) with silk among underwater plants, and lives by bringing air from the water surface into it using its abdomen and legs. It is found in Europe, the former Soviet Union, Central Asia, northern China, and Japan. Body length is 8 to 15 mm. The cephalothorax is reddish brown or light brown. The abdomen is dark brown or gray-brown, and is generally darker in color than the cephalothorax. The walking legs are dark brown or reddish brown. The upper jaw is reddish brown, and becomes more red as it approaches adulthood. The abdomen is covered with fine hairs, and the walking legs also have many hairs.

ミズグモ科のクモ（イラスト）。水中の水草の間に糸でドーム状の住居(空気室)を作り，そこに水面から空気を腹部と歩脚を使って運び込んで生活する。ヨーロッパ，旧ソ連，中央アジア，中国北部，日本に分布。体長8～15mm。頭胸部は赤褐色か淡褐色。腹部は暗褐色か灰褐色で，一般に頭胸部より色彩が濃い。歩脚は暗褐色または赤褐色。上あごは赤褐色で成体に近づくにつれ赤色が増す。腹部は細毛に覆われ，歩脚にも多数の毛を有する。
