...A small terrestrial orchid (illustration) that grows widely in grasslands. The tuberous root is almost spherical. The Japanese name comes from the fact that the tuberous root resembles a bulbil (propagule). The flower stalk is 20-40 cm tall, with 2-5 leaves that grow alternately near the center. The lower leaves are large, linear lanceolate, and 10-15 cm long. The upper leaves gradually get smaller. In July and August, it produces numerous dense yellow-green flowers. The flowers are small, 2-3 mm in diameter, and inconspicuous. Only the lip petal is relatively large, drooping, about 8 mm long, 3-lobed, with long lateral lobes that have no spur, and a slightly concave base. ...
