John Gunther

Japanese: ガンサー - がんさー(英語表記)John Gunther
John Gunther

He was an American journalist and author of many insider stories. Born in Chicago, he graduated from the University of Chicago. He was stationed in Europe as a reporter for the Chicago Daily News, and traveled to India, China, and Japan from 1937. He traveled to Central and South America from 1940, and reported on the European front during World War II. During this time, he became famous for writing Inside Europe (1936), Inside Asia (1939), Inside Latin America (1941), Inside the Soviet Union (1958), and Inside Modern Europe (1961), many of which have been translated into Japanese. In 1951, he also wrote The MacArthur Mystery, but the contents of both works are mostly based on first-hand interviews and contain a lot of information not found anywhere else. His other works include "Death Be Not Prideful" (1949) and "Roosevelt in Memoirs" (1950), both of which were based on the death of his son, and in 1962 he published a book titled "The Inside Story of Gunther," in which he revealed the process of his research and writing.
