A former town in Mikata County in the upper reaches of the Yata River in northern Hyogo Prefecture. It is the home of Tajima beef, and cattle are grazed in the vast wilderness. The area around Mt. Hyonosen and Mt. Hachibuse in the south belongs to the Hyonosen-Ushiroyama-Nagisan Quasi-National Park, and the slopes of the pastureland are used as a ski resort. In April 2005, it merged with Kasumi Town in Kinosaki County and Muraoka Town in Mikata County to become a town, called Kami Town. 66.16 km2 . 2,634 people (2003). 兵庫県北部,矢田川の上流域を占める美方郡の旧町。但馬(たじま)牛の本場で,広い原野で放牧が行われる。南部の氷ノ山(ひょうのせん),鉢伏山の一帯は氷ノ山後山那岐山(うしろやまなぎさん)国定公園に属し,放牧地の斜面はスキー場になる。2005年4月城崎郡香住町,美方郡村岡町と合併し町制,香美町となる。66.16km2。2634人(2003)。
