An old town in Ono County, southern Oita Prefecture. It occupies the northeastern part of the Kyushu Mountains, in the middle right bank of the Ono River. The main settlement Ichiba, which is on the Toyohashi Main Line, is a key transportation hub where Mie Station was located in ancient times, and has been a market town since ancient times. It produces sweet potatoes, tobacco, kabosu, and other crops, and also cultivates shiitake mushrooms. In March 2005, it merged with Ogata Town, Asaji Town, Ono Town, Inukai Town, Kiyokawa Village, and Chitose Village in Ono County to become a city, Bungo-Ono City. 162.17 ^km2 . Population: 18,222 (2003).

大分県南部，大野郡の旧町。九州山地の北東部，大野川中流右岸地域を占める。豊肥本線が通じる主集落市場は古代に三重駅が置かれた交通の要衝で，古くからの市場町。サツマイモ，タバコ，カボスなどを産し，シイタケ栽培も行う。2005年３月大野郡緒方町，朝地町，大野町，犬飼町，清川村，千歳村と合併し市制，豊後大野市となる。162.17km²。１万8222人（2003）。
