Mansai Jugō Nikki - Mansai Jugō Nikki

This is the diary of Sanboin Monzeki Mansai, the head priest of Daigoji Temple, who was deeply involved in the shogunate government and was highly trusted during the Muromachi period under three Shoguns, Ashikaga Yoshimitsu, Yoshimochi, and Yoshinori, and was sometimes called the "Black Robe Prime Minister." Currently, 11 volumes covering the years from 1411 (Oei 18) to 1422 (Oei 29) are kept in the National Diet Library, and 36 volumes covering the years from 1423 (Oei 30) to 1435 (Eikyo 7), the year of his death, are kept in Daigoji Temple, and all are handwritten. It contains detailed records of events related to the foundations of the shogunate, such as the succession of shoguns and kanrei (regent), and negotiations with the Kanto government, as well as religious and cultural events such as Buddhist ceremonies, Sarugaku, and Furyu, and is considered to be the most fundamental historical material of this period, but on the other hand, it is notable for having surprisingly few personal records about Mansai. It has been published in three volumes as "Kyoto Imperial University Literature University Series," and two volumes as "Zoku Gunsho Ruiju Houi," and the documents on the backs of the papers are currently being published as "Dai Nippon Komonjo Daigoji Monjo Besshu."
