An international conference held in Geneva. (1) A naval disarmament conference held following the results of the Washington Conference in 1927. Japan, the United States, and the United Kingdom participated in the conference to discuss restrictions on auxiliary vessels, but no concrete results were achieved, and the matter was postponed to the London Conference in 1930. (2) The first world disarmament conference held in 1932-1933 under the auspices of the League of Nations and attended by 61 countries. The United States and the Soviet Union, which were not members of the League, also participated, but the conference ran into difficulties due to the conflict between France, which demanded security provisions, and Germany, which demanded the permission of rearmament. During that time, both Japan and Germany withdrew from the League, and the conference ended without any results. (3) Held in 1954 to discuss the issues of Korean unification and the end of the Indochina War. 19 countries participated in the former conference, but it was terminated due to disagreement. The latter conference achieved some success with the establishment of the Geneva Agreement. → Related article Battle of Dien Bien Phu Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
