A medieval samurai family from Sagami. Its ancestor is said to be either Fujiwara Hidesato or Fujiwara Morotada. Sukekiyo, who became the head of the Uma clan, called himself the Sudo clan, and his son Sukemichi followed Minamoto no Yoshiie in the Former Nine Years' War and the Later Three Years' War, while Sukemichi's grandson Toshimichi took the name of the Yamauchi Sudo clan and based himself in Yamauchi Manor in Sagami Province, and fought alongside Minamoto no Yoshitomo in the Hogen and Heiji Rebellions. The Yamauchi Sudo clan was a retainer of the Genji clan who served as a wet nurse for the lord, but in 1180 (Jisho 4), Toshimichi's son Tsunetoshi did not join Minamoto no Yoritomo's uprising, and Yamauchi Manor was confiscated by Yoritomo. Later, Tsunetoshi followed Yoritomo and became the Shugo of Ise and Iga. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
