Multi-mirror telescope - Multi-mirror telescope

Multi-mirror telescope - Multi-mirror telescope
Also called MMT. Astronomical telescopes are devices that collect light from faint celestial objects, and their light-gathering power is proportional to the square of their aperture. Large-aperture telescopes are difficult to manufacture, so the main mirror surface is divided into multiple pieces and the images from each mirror are optically superimposed to increase the light-gathering power. This is called a multi-mirror telescope, and several attempts have been made in the past. The one currently known as MMT was built on Mount Hopkins in collaboration with the Smithsonian Observatory and the University of Arizona in the United States, and consists of six 1.8m reflecting telescopes arranged in a hexagonal shape, with six images synthesized in the center.
