Born: 1723. Locarno
Died 1763. Nymphenburg. Swiss ceramic modeller. Active in Vienna, Munich and Nymphenburg. Influenced by the Asam brothers and I. Günther, he developed his own style, and gained fame as a sculptor for the Nymphenburg Porcelain Manufactory (→Nymphenburg Porcelain) from 1754 to 1763. Although his works were small-scale, they are said to embody the essence of the Rococo style, and he excelled in group figures such as clowns and their ladies-in-waiting, Chinese people, Cupids, and tea parties.
