King of Denmark from ? to 940. The period of his reign is unclear. He came from Normandy or Norway, and expanded his power to the Jutland Peninsula while eliminating local clans. There is a record that in 935, when he ruled jointly with his son Harald (later known as King Blue Tooth), Archbishop Unni of Hamburg-Bremen visited Jelling and refused to accept Christianity. His rune stone, erected in memory of his wife Tyra, still stands in the church in Jelling. [Makino Masanori] Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
