A monk from the Western Regions or India who is said to have been the first to introduce Buddhism to Baekje in Korea. His birth and death years are unknown. According to the "Samguk Sagi," he traveled to Baekje from the Eastern Jin Dynasty of the Southern Dynasties of China in 384. King Jinliu welcomed him into his palace, and in the following year, 385, he founded a Buddhist temple in the royal capital of Hansan and ordained 10 monks. However, doubts have been raised about this legend, and the current prevailing view is that Baekje adopted Buddhism in the early 6th century.
