This hot spring is located in the southern part of Kamikawa Town under the jurisdiction of the Kamikawa Subprefecture in central Hokkaido. It is 21km upstream from Antaroma Station on the Sekihoku Main Line along the Antaroma River and its tributary, the Pon Antaroma River, at an altitude of about 1,030m at the foot of Mt. Nagayama. The source was discovered at the end of the Meiji period, and the spring is a sodium bicarbonate spring with a temperature of 46°C. Surrounded by a pure forest of red spruce trees, this quiet hot spring village is home to only one town-run youth center, and is also a base for climbing Mt. Daisetsu. Nearby are highland marshes such as Kumoigahara and Numanodaira. [Okamoto Jiro] Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
