A three-act play by American playwright Tennessee Williams. It is the author's masterpiece and premiered in 1947. Blanche, a daughter of a fallen southern plantation, is a lonely woman who, after a failed love marriage in her youth, clings to the traditional education of the vanishing past, but at the same time, is unable to suppress her lust and has fallen apart, living in a dream of escapism. The story of her visit to her sister, who lives in a back alley of New Orleans, where she stays with her, stays at her house, and is violated by her rough and realistic brother-in-law, who uncovers the truth about her and rapes her. The play is composed of 11 scenes, and the process of her mental breakdown is pursued lyrically and ruthlessly, creating a powerful impact. The title refers to the "Rue de Lust" streetcar that actually existed in New Orleans. Blanche rides this streetcar, changes to the "Cemetery" line, gets off at "Paradise" and arrives at her sister's house, symbolizing the fate of human beings.
