Fourteen large and small deposits of limestone in the western part of Kamaishi City, Iwate Prefecture, divided into the eastern and western rows. Mainly magnetite, but also pyrite, chalcopyrite, and pyrite sulfide. Discovered during the Kyoho era (1716-1736), ironmaking began with a Western-style blast furnace in 1857. Later, a government-run factory was completed in Suzuko, and ore was sent there for processing. This was the predecessor of the Nippon Steel Corporation's Kamaishi Ironworks.
