Japanese: マテガイ(馬刀貝) - マテガイ（英語表記）Solen strictus

A bivalve mollusks of the family Razoridae (illustration). When the two shells are put together, the shell is long and cylindrical, measuring 12 cm in length, 1.5 cm in height, and bulging 1.2 cm. The shell is thin, and its surface is covered with a shiny yellow shell. The apex of the shell is at the front end, which is cut at a slight angle, and the rear end at a right angle. In English, this shape is likened to a razor, and Razor clams are called razor clams or razor shells. Even when both shells are put together, the front and rear ends are open. The inside is grayish white. The soft foot that protrudes from the rear end is large and yellow-orange.

マテガイ科の二枚貝（イラスト）。殻は左右の両殻を合わせると長円筒形で，長さ12cm，高さ1.5cm，膨らみ1.2cmに達する。殻は薄く，表面は黄色の光沢のある殻皮におおわれる。殻頂は前端にあり，前端はやや斜めに，後端は直角に切れている。英語ではこの形をかみそりにたとえ，マテガイ類をrazor clam,razor shellと呼ぶ。前後端は両殻を合わせても開いている。内面は灰白色。後端より出る軟体の足は黄橙色で大きい。
