Mana River

Japanese: 真名川 - まながわ

A river that flows through the Ono Basin in eastern Fukui Prefecture. The Kumogawa River, which originates at Mt. Nogo Hakusan in the Ryohaku Mountains, and the Sasou River, which originates at Mt. Byobu, join at Nakajima in Ono City to become the Mana River, which flows through granite, Jurassic layers, and gneiss layers to create the scenic Mana Gorge before emerging into the Ono Basin. In the Ono Basin, it flows north parallel to the Kuzuryu River, sandwiching Tsukaharano, and empties into the Kuzuryu River near Shimoarai in Katsuyama City. It is 34 kilometers long and has a drainage area of 367 square kilometers. Upstream are the Mana River Dam and Sasou River Dam, which are used for power generation.

福井県東部の大野盆地を流れる川。両白(りょうはく)山地の能郷白山(のうごうはくさん)に発する雲川(くもがわ)と、屏風(びょうぶ)山に発する笹生(さそう)川とが大野市中島で合流して真名川となり、花崗(かこう)岩、ジュラ紀層、片麻岩層の間を真名峡の景勝地をつくり大野盆地に出る。大野盆地では塚原野(つかはらの)を挟んで九頭竜(くずりゅう)川に並行して北流し、勝山市下荒井(しもあらい)付近で九頭竜川に注ぐ。延長34キロメートル、流域面積367平方キロメートル。上流に電源利用の真名川ダム、笹生川ダムがある。
