Bibliophile - aishoshumi (English spelling)

Japanese: 愛書趣味 - あいしょしゅみ（英語表記）bibliophily

People who have this hobby are called bibliophiles, and when it reaches an extreme state it is called bibliomania, and a person who is obsessed with it is called a bibliomaniac, and they are translated as book enthusiasts or bookworms. Book lovers and bibliophiles do not necessarily overlap. Also, just because someone owns a large number of books does not necessarily make them a bibliophile. There are also cases where a book dealer's collection of books is merely decoration for a living room or necessary books for research. Conversely, in a world governed by economic principles, even a bibliophile may only have a few books.

この趣味の持主を愛書家bibliophileと呼び，それが極端に高じた状態をbibliomania，それに取り憑（つ）かれた人間をbibliomaniacといい，愛書狂，書痴などと訳される。読書家と愛書家とは必ずしも重ならない。また多数の書物を所有しているからといって，愛書家であるとは限らない。書籍業者の場合も考えられれば，蔵書が応接間の飾りか，研究用の必要図書にすぎない場合もある。逆に，経済原則に支配される世の中では，愛書家であっても，わずかの書籍しか持ちえないこともありうる。
