Sugarplum (English spelling)

...hard candy (candy with little moisture) with a fruity flavor. The English word "drop" means "tear" and refers to a round candy, also called sugar-plum. It was introduced to Japan during the Horeki era (1751-64), when Osakaya Heikichi, a drug dealer in Edo, started selling it under the name "zubotou."
