…The 65-volume New Continued Biographies of the Eminent Monks, compiled by Yu Qian and others in the Republic of China, includes biographies of monks from the Song dynasty through the Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties to the Republic of China, and is useful, but the compilation is rather sloppy, so it must be handled with caution. Next, the two volumes of the Haedong Eminents of the Monks compiled by Kakhun of Goryeo are biographies of the monks who circulated Buddhism in Korea, and are one of the Korean lost books that have been handed down only to Japan. As for Japan, the 10-volume Dongguk Eminents of the Monks compiled by Seikan, which starts with a biography of Prince Shotoku and covers the lives of monks from Dosho to Tenkai, as well as the 75-volume Honcho Eminents of the Monks compiled by Shiban and the 11-volume Continued Japanese Eminents of the Monks compiled by Dokei, which are more complete, and are all included in the Dai Nippon Bukkyo Zensho. …

…民国の喩謙らが撰した《新続高僧伝四集》65巻は，この《大明高僧伝》のほとんど大部分を併合編入したうえで，宋代から元，明，清をへて民国にいたる僧侶たちの伝記を網羅していて，便利であるが，編集はかなり杜撰なので，取扱いには用心せねばならない。　つぎに高麗･覚訓撰《海東高僧伝》2巻は，仏教を朝鮮に流通させた諸高僧の伝であり，日本にのみ伝存された朝鮮佚書の一つでもある。日本については，聖徳太子伝を巻首におくとともに道昭より天海にいたる僧伝たる性潡撰《東国高僧伝》10巻のほか，より完備したものとして師蛮撰《本朝高僧伝》75巻とそれにつづく道契撰《続日本高僧伝》11巻が，いずれも《大日本仏教全書》に収められている。…
