turn

Japanese: turn
turn

...The names vary from country to country and from composer to composer. The main types of ornaments that are well known today are the "trill" and "mordent," which divide a sound of a certain length into smaller parts and vibrate between adjacent sounds, the "turn," which orbits a sound and decorates it (Figures 2 and 3), the "appoggiatura" and "Schleifer," which emphasize a sound by adding a non-harmonic sound in front of it, and combinations of these (Figures 4 and 5). In this way, ornaments were musical elements that were closely linked to the act of performance and mainly belonged to the stylistic category.
