The English name is the Max Planck Society for the Advancement of Science. It is an organization that promotes and encourages scientific research in Germany. Based in Munich, it has 59 research institutes across Germany and more than 10,000 staff members (including about 4,000 researchers) in all academic fields, from the natural sciences to the humanities and social sciences (as of 1983). The society has its own endowment, and receives donations in addition to patent income, but the majority of its budget is covered by the federal and state governments.

英語表記はMax Planck Society for the Advancement of Science。ドイツにおける科学研究を推進･振興するための機関。ミュンヘンに本拠をおき，自然諸科学から人文･社会諸科学に至る，全学問分野について，ドイツ各地に59にもおよぶ研究所と1万人以上のスタッフ(うち研究者は約4000人)を擁している(1983現在)。協会は独自の基金を有し，特許収入のほか寄付金も寄せられるが，予算の大半は連邦政府および諸州政府によってまかなわれている。
