Furthermore, with the illegalization of war, there have been many cases in which the parties to armed conflict have avoided declaring a state of war, and as a result, have effectively ended armed conflicts by armistice agreements, not necessarily by peace treaties. Examples of this include the Palestine Armistice of 1949, the Korean Armistice of 1953, and the Geneva Conventions of 1954.
