Japanese: ウズラ(鶉) - ウズラ（英語表記）common quail

A bird of the Phasianidae family (illustration, illustration). Length is about 18 cm. It breeds from Europe to Asia, as well as in North Africa and southeastern Africa, and those in high latitudes migrate long distances, which is unusual for a bird of the Phasianidae family. In Japan, it mainly breeds in grasslands from central Honshu northward, and in winter migrates to plains from Kanto to Kyushu. It has a rounded body and a short tail. Its plumage is brown with white, black, and dark brown markings and stripes. It lives in cultivated fields, pastures, and grasslands, and is never seen in forests.

キジ目キジ科の鳥（イラスト，イラスト）。全長約18cm。ヨーロッパからアジアにかけて，また北アフリカとアフリカ南東部で繁殖し，高緯度地方のものはキジ科の鳥としてはめずらしくかなり長距離の渡りをする。日本ではおもに本州中部以北の草原で繁殖し，冬季は関東から九州にかけての平地に移動する。体型は丸みを帯び，尾は短い。羽色は褐色で，白色，黒色，暗褐色の斑紋や縞模様がある。耕地，牧場，草原などで生活し，林の中では見られない。
