A town in Shibata County in the south of Miyagi Prefecture, occupying the northeastern foot of Mt. Zao. It has extensive forests and plains, and is a major producer of rice, field crops, and livestock. Its specialty products are tobacco and konjac. At the foot of Mt. Zao are the Aone and Gaga hot springs, and it is part of the Zao National Park. The Yamagata Expressway runs through the town. The town sustained damage in the Great East Japan Earthquake. 270.77 km2 . 9,978 people (2010).

Kawasaki [town] [Kawasaki]

A town in Tagawa County in the central eastern part of Fukuoka Prefecture. Located in a corner of the Chikuho coalfield, coal mines were developed at the end of the Meiji era, and the town grew rapidly, becoming one of the leading coal mining towns in Chikuho. Later, the mines were closed due to coal rationalization, and efforts were made to promote the development of coal-producing areas. The Hitahikosan Line runs through the town. 36.14 km2 . Population: 18,264 (2010).

福岡県中東部,田川郡の町。筑豊炭田の一角にあり,明治末期に炭鉱が開発され急速に発達,筑豊有数の炭鉱町となった。その後,石炭合理化による閉山で炭産地振興を図っている。日田彦山線が通じる。36.14km2。1万8264人(2010)。
