In the paper industry there are two types: (1) Tissue paper: A general term for thin paper such as India paper, cigarette paper, and mimeograph paper. There are many types depending on the use. Western paper is mainly made from chemical wood pulp, but when a particularly thin and strong paper is required, chemical pulp made from Manila hemp, flax, or cotton is often used alone or in combination. (2) Toilet paper: A general term for disposable paper such as sanitary paper and facial wipes. It is made primarily from recycled pulp from waste paper (old paper), is not sized (added with a filler for smoothing), and is usually made using a Yankee machine with a device that creates crepe (shrinkage).
