Born December 11, 1834. The eldest son of Nabeshima Naonaga. In 1858, he became the 11th head of the Nabeshima clan, the lord of Hizen Kashima Domain (Saga Prefecture). In 1860, he entered Kyoto on behalf of Nabeshima Kanso, the lord of the main domain in Saga, and proposed the unification of the Imperial Court and the Shogunate. After the Meiji Restoration, he became the first governor of Okinawa Prefecture and a member of the House of Peers. He was made a viscount. He established a school and devoted himself to educational endeavors. He passed away June 14, 1915. He was 73 years old. His childhood name was Kumajiro, and his pen name was Keidou.
