A general term for birds in the Psittacidae family of parrots. In the narrow sense, parrots refer to the large, crested species known as cockatoos, but birds in the Psittacidae family are generally referred to as parrots and parakeets. They have large heads, short necks and legs, stocky bodies, and short, thick beaks with the upper beak strongly curved downward. They have antidactyl feet, with two toes facing forward and the other two facing backward, and use these to grab food and bring it in front of their face to eat, or use their legs and beak, often called the "third leg," to climb trees.
