The Brahma Net Sutra

Japanese: 梵網経 - ぼんもうきょう

A Buddhist scripture. Two volumes. An abbreviation of "The Tenth Chapter on the Precepts of the Bodhisattva's Mindset in the Bonnet Sutra, Vairocana Buddha." The first volume contains explanations of Vairocana, the Ten Minds of Attainment, the Ten Minds of Growth, the Ten Diamond Minds, and the Ten Earth Minds, while the second volume describes the Mahayana precepts. It is highly regarded in China and Japan as the first sutra on Mahayana precepts, and is the source of the perfect precepts perfected by Saicho. It lists ten major precepts and forty-eight minor precepts, and is unique in that it can be received by anyone, regardless of whether they are a monk or a layperson, and is known as the Buddha nature precepts.

仏教経典。2巻。『梵網経盧舎那仏説菩薩心地戒品第十』の略。上巻には，盧舎那仏，十発趣心，十長養心，十金剛心，十地心の説明が述べられ，下巻には大乗戒が述べられている。大乗戒の第一の経典として中国，日本で重視され，最澄によって大成された円頓戒の典拠経典となっている。十重戒，四十八軽戒があげられ，出家，在家の区別なく戒を受けられるところに特色があり，仏性戒といわれている。
