… Sardinian literature in the common Italian language emerged as a part of regional realism after the unification of Italy in 1861. The female writer G. Deledda wrote a huge number of long and short stories, and was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1926, bringing to light the island's unique climate and people's feelings. In poetry, Sebastiano Satta (1867-1914), who belonged to the Carducci school, sang the folk spirit of the area around Nuoro, the same hometown as Deledda. However, the annexation to the Kingdom of Italy also gave rise to a movement demanding autonomy for the Sardinian region, and in 1920 Emilio Lussu (1890-1975) founded the Sardinian Action Party. …
