Belgian painter and printmaker. Born in Namur, he studied law and painting in Brussels. After moving to Paris in 1874, he worked on etching and lithography, illustrating works by Baudelaire, Barbey d'Orby, Mallarmé, and others. Many of his works are strongly symbolic, demonic, and erotic. He produced a series of copperplate prints, including "Cafés and Cabarets in Paris." His representative works include "The Courtesan Politician" (1878) and "The Supreme Vice" (1884).

ベルギーの画家，版画家。ナミュール生れ。ブリュッセルで法律と画技を学ぶ。1874年のパリ移住後はエッチングと石版画の制作に従事し，ボードレール，バルベー・ドールビイ，マラルメらの作品の挿絵などを手がけた。象徴主義的な悪魔主義やエロティシズムの濃い作品が多い。《パリのカフェとキャバレー》などの銅版連作がある。代表作は《娼婦政治家》（1878年），《至高の悪徳》（1884年）など。
