Bonbon - Bonbon (English spelling) bonbon

Bonbon - Bonbon (English spelling) bonbon

A type of candy that is made by filling a crystallized sugar shell with whiskey, brandy, liqueur, syrup, etc. The word originates from the French word bonbon (good, delicious), which became the childish word bonbon. In France, bonbons refer to a broad range of sugar confections, including sugar-coated sweets (which have not only alcohol in the middle but also almonds, syrup, fruit, etc.), as well as small candies and bite-sized chocolates. In Japan, they became popular as a sophisticated confection in the mid-Meiji period. To make them, cornstarch and other powders are placed evenly in a container and pressed with a mold to make a depression. Thick molasses is poured into the depression, and then liquor is poured in between. After leaving it for a while, only the outside of the molasses hardens, which is then removed. Chocolate bonbons are made by coating them with chocolate.
