French politician. Graduated from the Ecole Normale. In 1944, he participated in de Gaulle's Provisional Government, and in 1956, he became General Manager of the Rothschild Bank. From 1958 onwards, he cooperated with de Gaulle's Fifth Republic, and served as Prime Minister from 1962 to 1968. After de Gaulle's resignation, he became President in 1969. While continuing de Gaulle's foreign policy, he also worked to strengthen France's economic power.
