Along with the superimposition method, this is a method used for personal identification, in which flesh is added to the skull using a clay-like substance according to the average thickness of soft tissue by age at over 20 specified locations on the head and face, to reconstruct the face as it appeared when the person was alive. A facial reconstruction is made based solely on statistical values, without looking at any photographs of a particular individual when they were alive, and once completed, it is compared with photographs taken when the person was alive, or shown to related parties for personal identification. There are not many examples of facial reconstruction in Japan. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
