A general term for lymphatic vessels, lymph nodes, and lymphatic organs such as the spleen, thymus, and bursa of Fabricius. It is also called the lymphatic system as it is mainly composed of lymphatic vessels, and together with the blood vessel system it is called the vascular system. In humans, the blood vessel system is a closed circulatory system, while the lymphatic system is an open circulatory system. It is distributed throughout the body and collects lymph. The lymphatic system has several trunks: the cervical lymphatic trunk, the subclavian lymphatic trunk, the bronchomediastinal lymphatic trunk, the intestinal lymphatic trunk, and the lumbar lymphatic trunk; ultimately, the trunk from the upper right half of the body opens into the veins as the right lymphatic trunk, and the rest open into the thoracic duct. リンパ管，リンパ節および脾臓，胸腺，ファブリキウス嚢などのリンパ器官の総称。主体がリンパ管なのでリンパ管系ともいい，血管系と合わせて脈管系という。ヒトでは血管系は閉鎖循環系であるがリンパ系は開放循環系である。全身に分布し，リンパ液を集める。リンパ系の本幹には頸リンパ本幹，鎖骨下リンパ本幹，気管支縦隔リンパ本幹，腸リンパ本幹，腰リンパ本幹があるが，最終的には右上半身からのものは右リンパ本幹として，それ以外は胸管として静脈に開く。リンパ系の機能は感染に対する防衛，リンパ球の産生，脂肪の運搬である。→開放血管系
