Hayashi Razan's main work on Confucian Shinto. Six volumes. Date of completion unknown. Referring to national histories such as the Kojiki, Nihon Shoki, Engishiki, and Jinno Shotoki, it examines the origins of shrines in various provinces and also touches on the art of spiritualism. It preaches the principle of the unity of Shintoism and Confucianism, and criticizes the syncretism of Shinto and Buddhism. As an academic study of shrines in the early modern period, it had a great influence on the studies of Shintoists and scholars of Japanese classics, and became a pioneer of Japanese classics and restoration of Shinto. An abbreviated version, Jinja Koshosetsu (1649), was created for Tokugawa Yoshinao.
