Labroides dimidiatus

Japanese: ホンソメワケベラ（英語表記）Labroides dimidiatus

A marine fish of the family Labridae in the order Perciformes (illustration). A closely related species, L. bicolor , has two colors, black-brown and yellow, on the front and back of its body. This species is in the same genus, but was named Narrow Cleaner Wrasse because of its slenderness, but before long it was mistakenly called the Honsome Cleaner Wrasse. It is widely distributed, from the Indian Ocean to the Pacific Ocean, the Red Sea, and the east coast of Africa to South Africa. In Japan, it can be found south of Kominato in Chiba Prefecture. It is a small species, about 12 cm in length.

スズキ目ベラ科の海産魚（イラスト）。体の前部と後部が黒褐色と黄色の2色に染め分けられているソメワケベラL.bicolorという近縁種があるが，本種は同じ属でほっそりしているところからホソソメワケベラと名付けられたが，いつのまにか誤ってホンソメワケベラとなってしまった。分布が広く，インド洋～太平洋，紅海とアフリカ東岸から南アフリカまで分布する。日本では千葉県小湊以南に見られる。全長12cmほどの小型種。
