A classification of shamisen music. A term for music born in Edo, as opposed to Kamigata. Namely, Hizen-bushi (originally Edo Hizennojo), Handayu-bushi (originally Edo Handayu), and Kato-bushi (originally Edo Tayu Kato). All of these have "Edo" before their names, and are characterized by their softness and standing in a single artistic lineage. At first, it mainly referred to Handayu-bushi (in other Joruri, "Edo" or "Edo Kakari" almost always means Handayu-bushi), but after Handayu-bushi declined, it came to mean Kato-bushi.
