Japanese name of herb - Honzouwamyo

A herbal medicine book from the Heian period written by Fukane Sukehito around 918 (Engi 18). It lists alternative names, Japanese names, and places of origin for the drugs listed in "Shinshu Honsho" and other Chinese herbal medicine books. This book was the first to assign Japanese names to Chinese names for drugs produced in Japan. The current version is a reprint by Taki Genkan in 1796 (Kansei 8), and since the classification and arrangement of drugs are all based on "Shinshu Honsho," it is also valuable for restoring "Shinshu Honsho," of which no complete copy remains today.

平安時代の本草書。918年（延喜18）ころに深根輔仁(すけひと)が著した。『新修本草』およびその他の中国本草書に収載されている薬物について、その別名、和名、産地などを記したもの。和産の薬物について、漢名に和名をあてたのは本書が最初である。現在に伝存するものは1796年（寛政8）に多紀元簡が復刻したもので、薬物の分類や配列をすべて『新修本草』に倣っているので、現在完本が残されていない『新修本草』の復原に際しても価値が高い。
