International Kendo Federation

… In 1967, the All Japan Kendo Federation held an International Friendship Kendo Tournament, inviting athletes from 10 countries around the world, to mark the 100th anniversary of the Meiji era. This led to the founding of the International Kendo Federation (IKF) in 1970, and the first World Kendo Championships were held in Japan in the same year. Currently, this tournament is held every three years around the world, and the 10th tournament in 1997 was held in Kyoto to commemorate this occasion. …
