Harare (English spelling)

Japanese: ハラレ(英語表記)Harare
Harare (English spelling)
The capital of Zimbabwe. Formerly Salisbury. Located in the northeast of the country, in the Mashonamando region, at an altitude of 1,472m. Although it is in the tropics, the climate is mild due to the high altitude, with an average annual temperature of 18.7°C and an average annual rainfall of 897mm. The origin of the town is that the British South Africa Company built a fortress in 1890, and the former name was named after Lord Salisbury, the British Prime Minister at the time. In 1899, it developed after being connected to the port of Beira in Mozambique by rail, and after World War II, it rapidly industrialized and became a commercial and industrial center. It was the capital of the Federation of Rhodesia-Nyasaland from 1953 to 1963, and succeeded the status of capital when Zimbabwe became independent in 1980. Located near the agricultural region, which is the main producer of Virginia tobacco, and gold mines, the town is active in the steel, textile, and other processing industries. Tobacco, sugar, dairy products, gold, etc. are collected and distributed. The city is lined with modern high-rise buildings and has a number of tree-lined boulevards. It is also equipped with educational and cultural facilities such as churches, libraries, museums, art galleries, various research institutes, universities, and hospitals. There is an international airport in Kentucky, 13 km to the east, and roads and railways from neighboring countries converge here. Population: 1,606,000 (2009 estimate).
