The southernmost point of South America. In Spanish, it is called Cape Hornos. It is located at about 56° south latitude, at the southern tip of Horn Island, which is part of the Chilean territory, south of Tierra del Fuego. It was named by a Dutch navigator who passed through here in 1616, and was a key point on the shipping route before the opening of the Panama Canal.
