Iwaki Offshore Gas Field - Iwakioki Gas Electric

It was discovered in 1973 by joint exploration by Teikoku Oil and Esso in an area 40km east-northeast of Iwaki City, Fukushima Prefecture, and production began in 1985. The gas field is an anticline running north-south with a reverse fault cutting the west side, covering an area of approximately 8km2. The gas layer is a Miocene sandstone layer with an average porosity of approximately 26% and is distributed at depths of 2000-2100m. 14 production wells have been completed by directional drilling from one platform. Average daily production in 1995 was 620,000m3 of gas. [Fujita Kazuo]
